Humans of New York and Ms. Lopez

Okay, Im not the "mushy" type but this is awesome. It began with the small collective of Humans of New York who interviewed a young child in Brownsville, New York who stated that his principle, Ms. Lopez, influenced him most. They were so impressed by the story and Ms. Lopez that they caught up with her and posted her story. Proceeded to raise money for the academy to send the underprivileged children on a field-trip to Harvard each year.

(Who’s influenced you the most in your life?) My principal, Ms. Lopez.

...One time she made every student stand up, one at a time, and she told each one of us that we matter.

Being that they raised more than $350,000 within 24hours, they were able to make the Harvard trips a permanent part of their curriculum, they're also stating that for every $40,000 raised over $350,000 they will be able to hold a summer program for the children being that the neighborhood is much too dangerous to play in during the summer months. Of course Im paraphrasing but I have been inundated by this story and being able to slowly see the course of events unfolding on Humans of New York's Facebook page is absolutely stunning. It's refreshing to see such good come from these small organizations and minute events.

I want my scholars to know that even if they live in a housing project, they are part of a royal lineage going back to great African kings and queens.

If you'd like to donate, heres the link to their donation site click_
