Design Story:
Robert Indiana, the American artist behind the popular “LOVE” print and sculpture, was born in New Castle, Indiana and studied art and design at various universities before settling in New York in the early 50s. The “LOVE” print featured a tilted “O” which Indiana describes as “giving the the four letters dynamism.. theres nothing more [dynamic] than an ‘O’ at attention”. The image first appeared in a series of poems written in 1958 and over time was adapted into prints and paintings until he created the sculpture made of Cor-ten steel, in 1966. On May 19, 2018, Robert Indiana died of respiratory failure at the age of 89. His work still lives on in museums all across the globe, such as: Israel, New York, and Japan.
