Many Irish arrived in the city during and after the Great Famine (1845–1852), seeking economic opportunities and escaping hardship. They primarily settled in neighborhoods like Kerry Patch (Carr Square), near Downtown St. Louis. Influence of these immigrant communities can still be seen today in some of the churches of the area. St. Liborious, on 19th Street. Today, Irish heritage is still celebrated in the city, with events like the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and organizations such as the Ancient Order of Hibernians keeping the cultural traditions alive.
