Design Story:
The St. Louis Blues played at The Checkerdome (originally the St. Louis Arena) from their founding in 1967 until 1994 (on Oakland Avenue where the ‘new’ Science Center is currently). The aging arena, known for its raucous atmosphere, had become outdated and financially unsustainable. In response, a new state-of-the-art venue, the Kiel Center (now Enterprise Center), was built in downtown St. Louis. The Blues moved there for the 1994–95 season, marking a new era for the franchise with modern amenities and improved seating. The move helped revitalize downtown and solidify the Blues’ long-term future in St. Louis. The old Checkerdome was demolished in 1999, but it remains a nostalgic part of Blues history.
